We are not quite sure if we want to sell this car. This is Benzinas personal machine and actually a tremendous amount car for the money. We would dare to say it is much more fun to drive than contemporary Porsche 911 and at least as fast (and much cheaper). This is also a guaranteed collectors item.
With only 1,220 cars made in 1977, you rarely meet an Alpine on the road. However, we have bought another vintage sports car that needs our full attention. Sometimes you have to sacrifice something to achieve something else, that´s just the way things are.
So how is it to drive? Place yourself in the adjustable sport leather seats and you will understand that this experience will be special. Red dials on a black background hides behind a classic Momo steering wheel, this allows the mind to daydream itself to the starting line at Le Mans. You sit low as in a real race car. Turn the key and a dry exotic bark emits from the rear of the car. A potent three-liter V6 idles behind your back. It sounds special and expensive, far from its simple Renault roots. This is just a good 3-liter that is drawn from a nineties Citroen XM with 190 hp originally. With an open air filter, competition manifolds and exhaust from the tuner Devil, gives the car additional 20 horses. The engine should thus provide about 210 horses, and in this little car this works rather well. It is simply impossible not to smile. The gearbox is precise and very reminiscent of in feeling found in DeTomaso Pantera and Ford GT40 gearboxes.
People are actually surprised at how compact and tight this plastic car feels: No rattles and feel very much together. The engine dominates the experience, it sings magical: The car sounds similar to the Ferrari Dino and the Lancia Stratos. Exhaust is crackling at the overrun. Originally with 150 hp the Alpine goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. We have not measured it, but estimates acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes about 6 seconds now. In other words, this is no slow car even measured with today's standards. People who meet the car like what they see and provides "tumbs up" when you arrive. Road holding is modern and incredibly good. The tires stick to the road and follow your commands easy. In rain should however be a bit careful with the throttle. The power and wide rear tires demands respect. This is however addressed now, we have bought a set of Michelin TB tires. It is also practical: There is room for four in the car, even if the rear passengers should preferably be of the younger generation.
The Alpine is recently MOT tested and ready for use. This is the most smiles you’re your money you can get – guaranteed.
