This is not a regular sales ad, but an interest check if anyone wants / can take over the baton. I must not sell and buyer must be the right person. I am considering sales as I want to raise cash to buy a house in Italy and have several other classic cars.
I didn't think I'd write this ad either. I love Alfa Romeo and especially the Bertone coupe. “The Bertone” has a very special place in my heart. For me, Alfa GTAm is the most wanted in the model range. But if you think this ad is too long, too emotional, then this is definitely not your car. Stop reading right now!
This car is not for everyone, should you own it you must have mechanical sympathy, be able to fix it yourself or have money use a mechanic. A tailor-made car is never finished, it is always "work in progress". To give you an example, I spent almost 2 years getting the engine to run properly. It should have been run on rolls / in the bench, but I am so happy it works and that overshadows the extra horsepower you can find after fine tuning. You drive this car with your senses wide open.
The Alfa was found in a garage in 2017 after almost 20 years of sitting still. It was a barn / garage find. I had to go over everything mechanically and cosmetically. If you want to read about the find, the story is here.

Today we write 2019. After hundreds of hours, the car is EU-approved and runs fine. The exterior is freshly painted and looks good. The interior still needs some love. Mechanically, the car works phenomenally. It runs as it looks - uncompromising. So this is no car for anyone who wants to pose, but for those who love the smell of gasoline and hot exhaust. (Something you also are going to smell of after a long trip).
BODY
The car is built on a 1976 Alfa Romeo 1600 gtj. This is a previous project initiated by Espen Enerhaugen and Carozzeria Alfa in the 90s. Enerhaugen is known as one of Norway's best car builders. This means that the quality of the job is exceptional. Inner fenders are seam welded, the wide fenders are hand hammered / rolled in aluminum (no bondo here). When I found the car, it had some surface rust, paint was worn and wide fenders had some cracks. In 2018-19, the car was part restored and fully painted with screens, doors, windows and hatches loose. The wide fenders were restored and the aluminum welded, everything was painted in parts and mounted back on the car. Quality nails were used.
The color is the car's original Verde Muschio. It has a new green windscreen with green shadow line. The car got new turn signals 1750 gtv and Mini Cooper S, as well as brand new backlights and cover between the headlights. It was also purchased from Alfaholics GTAm sign light holder in aluminum and new sign lights. Tailgate is modified for central gasoline filler and new lock with wire mounted.
FUEL SYSTEM
The car has aluminum tank with centered tank filler with quick opening / fuel filling As seen on GTAm and Aston Martin race cars. In addition, it has been modified so that one can see the fuel level on the original instruments in the car. It has a new electric pump and hoses, the pump is controlled by a switch inside the car. There is a new FACET fuel regulator with pressure reading in engine compartment. The carburettors have overtaken Dellorto 40 with correct nozzles with real GTA trumpets (used from the 60's, not replica)
INTERIOR
Steering wheel is Momo Martini Racing Alcantara. Gear lever Momo Aluminum. Black leather seats / door covers from Bertone 2000 gtv with nice patina. 4-point vintage safety harness from ELIT. New black carpet from Alfaholics. Extra instruments charge and oil temperature with 1300 instrument holder. 1750 plastic GTAm dash and 1750 instruments. Electronic tachometer enters the dashboard to know 100% correct engine speed (save engine). Horn, electric fan and petrol pump switch. The dashboard has cracks but it comes with a spare dash. Roof covers are black lacquered and should be replaced. Hat shelf is retracted into delicious diamond kilt artificial leather. Between trunk compartment and cup, shielding is made with aluminum.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Restored underpinnings with new bushes.
Adjustable camber / caster
Bigger roll bar front 29 mm EB Spares
Bilstein yellow B6 K4-B46-58143 Nurburgring sports dampers with mounting kit
Fast road suspension kit E.B. Spares
New wheel bearings
DRIVE TRAIN
The drive was overhauled before the car was put away. I got the car without oil in the gearbox. (Not run with this). Lower fifth as 1300 and gearbox 5- speed, overhauled by Smart Classics with Porsche syncromesh rings. Fire wall altered for quick gear box changes.
Clutch Sachs sport with special wear bearing and hydraulic solution as on the Honda Civic CRX.
Intermediate shaft and differential overhaul 2010. Don't know history or background when mechanic is dead today.
BRAKES
All discs new grooved and drilled
Front 2000 gtv brakes (modified) with gtv6 calipers.
In addition, there is a new brake pump and brake power amplifier.
Calipers are all overhauled
New brake hoses
ENGINE
Engine comes from a 90's Alfa 75 with two distributors and 8 plugs. It is converted to fit the 105 series Alfa. After the purchase, I removed existing throttlebodies, bought 123 ignition and new 45 mm Webere, and gave the existing engine service. Former owner had receipts from FERRARI, LUMANI Krüger GmbH & Co. KG Ferrari in Hanover. Receipt is denominated £ 10995 exc VAT - the time NKR 158.053, -. The engine broke while idling. The engine was then taken out and it was found that the valve had fallen out and hit the piston. It turned out that the engine builders where total amateurs. The whole engine, besides the camshafts was completely original and amateurishly built. It was nothing more to do than building a whole new engine from scratch. The only thing that was kept from the old ones was the camshafts and aluminum intakes from Alfaholics.
NEW ENGINE
TS engine from 1992.
New distributor caps / rotors and plug cables
Magneti Marell ignition system, connected in series with dry coils
Spark plugs NGK
Carburetor Dellorto 40 mm on genuine gta trumpets
Intake Alfaholic aluminum long with O-rings
Carburettor Alfa 75 pedal with Pedersen Racing throttle mechanism and custom solutions
Aluminum oil catch tank Pedersen Racing
Head totally overhauled and milled 2 mm
Cams new racing cams from Alfaholics
Alfaholics stainless manifold
Cylinder linings prepped and honed
New piston rings
New bearings and chain
Oil filling cap Alfaholic
Power approx not tested as the car is only driven in. The effect comes as on a racing car with a brutal raw sound at about 4100 rpm. It really shifts to 7200 (has not tested more rpm as yet). Easy to drive in town down to 1000 rpm, but not strong at low rpm. This is a race engine. Comes with extras: new Weber 45s with GTA trumpets, as well as 123 ignition for additional power boost.
EXHAUST
Complete Alfaholics stainless steel sports exhaust for Twin Spark conversions. Beautiful sound!
WHEELS
Extremely rare and expensive Alfa Tipo 33 Campagnolo magnesium rims. These are rims used by Autodelta for Alfetta GTV V8 and Montreal group 4 cars. Hubs are converted to use these with 4x98 bolt pattern. Tires Yokohama 225 / 50x15
With the car comes spacers and 14x8 widened steel Alfa wheels for track use.
CONCLUSION
A fiercely unique historical racer with modifications approved in cars papers. Will only be sold to buyers who know exactly what he / she is buying. Test drive only with me behind the wheel and only as a confirmation of purchase. The price is written in stone and I reserve the right to choose the buyer for this particular car. Here you get a hobby / passion without any kind of guarantees. This is art on wheels!
Serious inquiries only
