Benzina has the pleasure of selling this amazing Maserati for our customer.
The Maserati Ghibli
Maserati Ghibli, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, was presented at the Torino Motor Show in 1966. Not only was Ghibli one of the most beautiful and iconic cars of the sixties, but it was also one of the fastest. The name "Ghibli" is Arabic, and comes from the gust of desert wind that blows through Libya several times a year. The car is also fast as a wind: Zero to a hundred kilometers per hour takes approx. six seconds and top speed is over 275 km / h. These are respectable numbers even by today´s standards.
With only 1,149 examples sold between 1967-1972, the car is sought after by collectors. In the sixties, Ghibli competed with Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura. However, the Maserati is much more than just a sports car. This is a tourer you will not be tired of driving far, and the sophisticated gentleman's undisputed choice. The aluminium V8 engine is brutally strong and the car likes to drive far and fast. The Maserati is not revolutionary in its construction, but rather refined by engineers through many years of experience and knowledge. The engine has both dry sump lubrication and has double cams on each cylinder bank. Four Weber 40 DCNL 5 carburators with motor sports trumpets provide the sound of singing angels. A classic Ghibli is a “feelgood car”.

The early Ghibli had a lot of design and mechanical features different from the later models:
- The 450s engine with its racing pedigree had twinspark cylinder head with 8 of the 16 plug holes blocked out. This was a pure race car engine adapted for road use. On later models this feature was gone.
- The body had the sills painted in matte black to make it appear lower.
- The luggage compartment lid had a completely different design with a small lip. (dropdown bootlid)
- Very elegant rocker switches on dashboards and smith's instruments with highlighted instrument holders.
- ZF Power Steering, ZF 5-speed gearbox
- Dry sump 4.7 l, Air conditioning, Salisbury Limited Slip Differential
- Own reservoir tank for fluid for clutch.
- Pop-up headlamps have a straight design on later models the design is rounded.
All of this make the early Ghibli more special and even more beautiful. The details are mesmerizing.
Spesifications
This car is chassis AM115.168 and engine no. AM115.168. In other word matching numbers. This handsome blue example was ordered 26th of October 1967 and delivered new via Maserati’s Modena workshop the 18th of December 1967 and was originally finished in Blue Pervinca (Salchi code 106A55) with white leather (Conolly code pac.1544), equipped with 5- speeds manual type ZF S5.325 transmission. The number of owners and history is well documented.
Body and interior
Body and interior restored in Padova, Italy in 2010. Since then it has been sparingly driven 25000 km on sunny days. It still feels as freshly restored. The paint is still perfect with a beautiful lustre that changes with the sun. The seats just got that nice look of just lived in and looks even better than when they were just restored. The unique dash and instruments looks as if they were new. The engine room is just freshly detailed to period standards, so also the underside of the car. (look at the pictures) It is probably one of the best driving Ghibli´s around. (Cars like to be driven not standing in museums).
Engine and transmission
It runs perfectly with excellent torque and wonderful sound. A fresh compression test follows the car. The transmission is smooth and reliable as it should be. All oils, filters and fluids are just changed. The car is on the button ready to go anywhere.
Conclusion
This is a great opportunity to acquire a very fine and early example of the legendary Maserati Ghibli 4.7 in an elegant colour combination and mechanically perfect. It is better than a just restored car, as this car has been driven and shaken down and is ready for anything. New Michelin tires 215/70x15 have just been put on the car. It is Norwegian registered, but transport and delivery can be arranged anywhere in Europe.
