This time we have something really special. On behalf of our customer we sell a completely unique 1978 Ferrari 308 gts. The car that was made immortal by Tom Selleck's character Thomas Magnum driving the red gts. The car is from the time Ferrari made limited production of their cars. Just 3219 examples of Ferrari 308 GTS were made from 1977 to 1980.
I remember well when I saw a 308 as a young man. In the streets. Back then, seeing a Ferrari was as exciting as meeting a movie star. It was not as common, as it is today. Now we see a Ferrari in any major city any day of the week. In a way, a 308 was a dream, but an achievable one.
This is an extremely elegant car, but often difficult to keep in tip top condition due to carburetors that often need a tuning. The owner of this saw this as a challenge. He decided to make a Ferrari 308 that went well, started easily and was reliable. Inspiration was found from the English company Moto Technique. They make what must be the ultimate Ferrari 308 “restomod”. This is no Moto Technique "restomod», but as close as one can get without a billionaire’s checkbook.
To achieve this, the owner decided to use modern ignition and throttle bodies. The conversion has been costly, but the result is simply breath taking. All work has been done in the period 2020 to 2021. Total bill exceeds EURO 22.000 in 2020/21 alone.
ENGINE
Original 308 gts with removed US emissions equipment
Jenvey throttle bodies
Direct coil on each sparkplug
ECU programmed by Jonus and dynoed at 190 hp on the rear wheels
and approx. 240 hp in engine. This is very good, most old 308s deliver about 150 on the rear wheels. The engine is smooth and strong from just above idle to 8000 rpm. Do not be confused by the numbers. This car is pulling really well.
EXHAUST
New stainless sports exhaust gives the perfect sound
However; power without control is nothing. The car must handle too.
SUSPENSION
Coil-overs from Nick Forza Ferrari. Recognized internationally in Ferrari racing and street set ups. Comfortable, with great handling.
TIRES & WHEELS
New Michelin 225/50 on 16 x7 and 16x8 inch Ferrari Superformance wheels
BODY
Originally besides European bumpers. This makes the car much easier and faster. In addition, the car has a newly restored original steering wheel.
CONCLUSION
A wonderfully sorted driver's Ferrari, with an exciting color combination. Black exterior and red interior are both classy and elegant. Here you have a car you can drive and really enjoy winding roads or challenging mountain passes. The smile is never far away with this one. With the removable roof, you can have a convertible too. The car is nice to look at, but not immaculate. Some patina is present. The price is set for a quick sale, as the owner has several exclusive cars but little time to use them.
The car is 43 years old, so we want the buyer to invest time to know what she/ he is buying, and agree that the car is sold without any kind of warranty. We take the time to go through the car with you. That way, misunderstandings or boring incidents do not arise in retrospect.
We prefer telephone contact due to large working pressure. Mail or SMS without full name / phone number is not answered. We take Covid 19 restrictions into account, and an appointment is made for an inspection in advance.
