Do you want to own an unrestored well-designed custom car with Hot Wheels provenance?
What once started as a Chevrolet Corvette c3 was in 1974/75 transformed into something completely different. To understand what this is and how the car came to be, we must tell the story behind the incredible build. After reading this, you will understand exactly why you must buy the car. Yes, here is American custom car history at its best.
HISTORY
It was a drummer's fault that the car even saw the light of day. Uriel Jones was the chosen drummer for famous artists who made records in Detroit. Stars such as Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder used the percussionist on several of their albums. Jones played regularly in Motown's in-house band, the Funk Brothers. He was usually in his car on the road between gigs. Jones was a true petrol head and loved his 1968 model Chevrolet Corvette. However, there was no room for his drum set in the sportscar. He approached several car builders and eventually ended up at Styline Customs in Detroit, specifically River Rouge, Michigan. Owner Chuck Miller, in addition to having won countless concept and custom cars, was not afraid of challenges. How about a Corvette station wagon?
Just putting a station wagon rear end on a Corvette would hardly look or work very well. Designer Harry Bentley Bradley wanted to join the fun and said he was willing to design a Corvette Wagon. Harry is by the way known to have designed 11 of the first 16 Hot Wheels toy cars. Hot Wheels is still an iconic brand, and the mischievous almost caricature-like style is just as popular today as it was then. But with this creative resource behind him, Miller built a car that no one had previously thought could exist. His plan was ambitious, he wanted to make complete Corvette station wagons and sell the conversions as kits.
FACTS
This 1971 model is one of two with the unique rear windows. The second produced was unfortunately lost in a fire. His nickname for the car was "Drum Buggy". Miller has owned five Corvette Wagons himself, but this one is clearly his favourite. The car contains more intricate details than the other cars. Among other things, the paint is very special, with its own mixed metallic paint called "Ginger Honey" and "Coffee Brown". In addition, all the stripes are made by hand. The interior is sewn/woven in the colour pistachio and light yellow. This unusual combination could only have been conceived in the seventies. It doesn't get more seventies than this. The front is a combination of standing Monza lights and Corvette rear bumpers moved forward. In addition, the newer C3 front wings with air intake has been used to get a tougher look. The craftsmanship is exceptional. For example, the mouldings around the wrap-around windows are made of stainless steel. The windows are also specially designed to reflect sunlight. The Sport Wagon emblem is unique to the car. Even the engine has been adapted to the rest of the design. The intake is painted "Coffee Brown" with a valve cover in the Special Vette colour. The engine is a 350 ci with a four-port carburettor with an estimated power output of 275 hp connected to a 3-speed automatic. If the sun is shining, the roof can be removed using a two-piece targa roof. The car feels more like a factory model made in a parallel universe than a home build. Skilled professionals have clearly worked here. The car then also received many awards. Among others first place in the Custom Car Show, Detroit Autorama.
Today the car is located in Norway. It has been serviced, brakes and parts of the undercarriage upgraded. The side exhaust is gone for much more elegant and suitable exhaust pipes that end up at the back in original rectangular tail ends. As it was when the car was built. It has also received more contemporary 15 inch chrome Smoothie rims with 255/60 Nankang NK Utility SP7 wheels. The speedometer reads 52,000 miles.
