A very special M3
Just arrived: This M3 is a car with that little something extra. Everything has been tastefully modified to enhance the driving experience. Calling it a “restomod” may be stretching the term slightly, but this is a tidy, upgraded car that takes the eighties icon at full speed into the 21st century. Most of the original parts are included, should you ever wish to return the car to a completely standard E30 M3.
First of all, this is a genuine M3 with a BMW 316 identity (approved body shell replacement), so let’s get that out of the way. The 316 chassis number has been stamped over the original M3 chassis number. This does not make it any less of an M3, but it does mean that the chassis number is not the correct M3 number. Now, on to what really matters:
Bodywork
The body shell (genuine M3) has been professionally restored and repainted, at a total cost of approximately EURO 30,000–40,000. There is no rust whatsoever.
Weight Reduction
To save weight, the car has been fitted with a new lightweight fibreglass spoiler. The original, considerably heavier spoiler is included. The original front lip is also included.
Brakes and Suspension
The car has been specially set up with E36 M3 brakes, calipers and suspension components at the front, combined with E30 brakes, calipers and suspension components at the rear. It feels glued to the road while still retaining a comfortable ride.
Wheels and Rims
The car sits on brand-new lightweight OZ Racing wheels, fitted with brand-new 2022 tyres that have seen only minimal use. A set of BBS-style replica wheels is also included if desired.
Interior
The entire interior has been completely reupholstered in a beautiful tartan pattern, giving the car an exclusive, almost new-car feel. Even the sun visors and headliner have been upgraded. A brand-new M3 steering wheel and aluminium pedals have also been fitted, further enhancing the overall impression of the cabin. The electric window regulators are new.
Audio and Multimedia
A new, period-correct Blaupunkt stereo system in a retro style has been installed, complete with modern Bluetooth connectivity.
Engine and Drivetrain
The car retains its 2.3-litre engine. It is equipped with a carbon airbox and modern engine management from ES Tuning in Trondheim. Output is 224 hp and 257 Nm. The engine pulls strongly and effortlessly revs to 8,000 rpm.
The car is also fitted with a Supersprint exhaust system, which underlines its character and produces a fantastic soundtrack. Every drive feels like a journey back to the golden era of DTM.
